Deadline for abstract submission has ended. Submitters will be informed about the acceptance of their abstracts until March 13, 2020.

Abstract submission guidelines

Abstracts IN ENGLISH LANGUAGE ONLY may be submitted for one of the following types of presentation:

  • Oral presentations (presentations of 10-15 minutes)
  • Mini oral (pitch) presentations (presentations 3-5 minutes)
  • E-poster presentations
  • Workshop / Symposium (session of 90 minutes)

Since there is only a limited number of oral and oral mini presentations, abstracts submitted as oral presentation may be considered for poster presentation by the Scientific Committee.

The following types of abstracts can be submitted:

  • Research abstracts
  • Policy abstracts
  • Good practice abstracts

Structure of abstracts for oral, mini oral and poster presentation

  • Introduction/Background/Problem
  • Description of Objectives/Methods/Intervention (mandatory)
  • Results (effects/impact/changes) (mandatory)
  • Conclusions/Lessons (mandatory)
  • Relevance to Health Promotion in Hospitals and Health Services (mandatory)
  • maximum 6 keywords (not mandatory)

Structure of abstracts for 90-minutes workshops or symposia

  • Aims/Rationale/Purpose (mandatory)
  • Session design (mandatory)
  • Relevance to Health Promotion in Hospitals and Health Services (mandatory)
  • maximum 6 keywords (not mandatory)

Abstracts may not contain more than 2.000 characters in total.

Abstracts may not contain tables, graphics or special characters.


The Scientific Committee would especially like to invite abstracts with a focus on one of the main conference topics, on topics related to HPH task forces and the following topics:

  • Child, adolescent and maternal health
  • Community health promotion and public health

  • Governance and leadership for Health Promotion in Hospitals and Health Services
  • Health literacy and communication
  • Health literate health care organizations
  • Health promotion and prevention in primary health services
  • Health promotion for older people and long-term patients
  • Healthy lifestyles
  • Integrating health services and social services
  • Mental health and psychiatric care
  • Migration, equity and diversity in health care and health promotion
  • Monitoring quality, patient safety and health promotion objectives
  • Patient and community empowerment and involvement, Self-help friendly hospitals
  • Prevention of Non-Communicable Diseases and chronic disease management
  • Tobacco prevention and coping
  • Workplace health promotion in health care organizations


All abstracts received until January 14, 2020, 6 p.m. CET will be screened by the Scientific Committee of the International Conference on Health Promoting Hospitals and Health Services. The review criteria are as follows:

Each abstract will be reviewed by two experts from the Scientific Committee and scored on the basis of the following criteria: 

  • Is the abstract of relevance to health promoting hospitals and health services?
  • Is the description of background/problem/introduction and objectives/methods/intervention clear and sufficient?
  • Are results (effects/impact/changes) significant and justify the drawn conclusions/lessons?
  • Is the quality of the abstract sufficient in terms of language (clarity, English language, explanation of abbreviations) and content (logical sequence and cohesiveness of the abstract)?
  • Are there any ethical concerns about this abstract?

All submitters will be informed about the decision of the Scientific Committee latest by March 13, 2020.
